It would be our final game of the season ….. West Epping easily beat Chatswood Premier and so the result of our game against Crows Nest Rebels on Saturday made no difference.
We played again on the long grass at Artarmon. We bowled first and kept it very tight for the first half – 3-46 at drinks (Romo 1-20, AB 2-21). But again, the opposition worked us out after drinks, and cashed in on tired old legs and lack of mobility in the field. Rebels ended up on 8-157 (Shero 2-26, and Big Show 2-25). 3 catches on the boundary for Romo and 2 behind the stumps for Dylan.
It was a big score and was always going to be difficult, made even harder when Sharpy chased a wide one (trying to manufacture shots to overcome the long outfield) and was caught behind for 17. Riordo once again batted superbly (his third 50 in a row) but nobody else made double figures and we closed on 8-108 (50 short of the target).
We finished fifth – last week’s defeat being the killer blow to our Finals chances – but realistically you wouldn’t expect to progress when you lose 11 games out of 17.
Well done to Sharpy (538 runs at 45) and Riordo (326 runs at 41) – 1st and 3rd in the league batting. And to Romo, 21 wickets at 18 (second in the bowling).
We’ll go again next year and hope to do a little better.
In the meantime, we’re organising the end of season dinner at Radio Cairo in Cremorne.

The big feature of the night will be the summary of the season from the Fines Committee. So if you’ve dropped a catch, turned up late to a game or not turned up at all - be prepared to cough up….
