Mounties 177 (A Boorer 4/10, D Mayes 2/20, K Mason 2/40, C Maconnachie 1//36, B Eriksson 1/48) defeated OICC 155 (P Green 37, D Mayes 32, M Toal 22)
Lost the toss and bowling on a typically excellent Ryde Oval wicket, in sweltering heat.
Mounties got off to a great start scoring at 6 an over and only losing 1 wicket in the 1st 10 overs. We then picked up 4 wickets in the next 10 overs to have them 5/102 after 20, and we were looking OK.
AB then entered the fray, bowling an awesome spell to take 4/10, leaving us 178 for victory. A dubious decision or 2 probably gave them more than they deserved, but a very achievable total on a good deck and fast outfield.
We lost a couple of early wickets, and Maso (13) and Dorny (32) were pushing the score along nicely, however after Maso was given LBW driving the ball into his pads, we were 3/63 after 13. Frawley (1), Mayes and Lord Bass (6) followed shortly thereafter, with Frawley playing the most embarrassing shot in Masters history.
So what was looking OK when Maso departed had turned into 6/94 at the 20 over mark. Still with Toal (22), Forde (4), Green (37), Garling (15) & Boorer 3*, chasing 178 was still achievable at only just a click above 4 an over.
Toalie eventually fell, however Pete Green played an excellent debut innings of 37 which kept us in the fight. Greenie fell in the 30th over, leaving us teetering at 9/140, requiring 38 off the last 10, and with Garling, possibly batting the lowest he has ever batted at No 10, we were still in with a chance.
Garlo smoked a 6 and a 4 in his 15, and was looking the best the has looked all season and at the end of 32, with 8 to go, we only required 27.
Alas, Garlo left one that cut back a mile. All out 155.
3 highlights of the day:
Pete Green’s 37 on debut – good to have you Greenie.
AB’s 4 for 10 off 4.3 overs.
Adrian Schwager dropping in to say G’day. It was great to see one of our talismans and wish him all the best.
