OICC 194 (Mason 49*, Frawley 48, Eriksson 35, Maconnachie 29) lost to CCNSW 6/197 (Eriksson 4/40, Maconnachie 1/30, Butler, G 1/41)
Lost the toss and sent in to bat, we were 1/0 off the first ball, with The Wild Thing Grimes adjudged LBW. The Eel Eriksson (35) though continued his fine form with the bat, and along with CMac Maconnachie (29) enjoying the harder ball coming on up the order, got us through the first 10 to be 1/55. We lost the Eel, CMac & Garling (5) to be 4 /91 at the 20 over ½ way mark, with the Difference Mason (49*) compiling a composed innings.
Lord Bass (2) punished a ball to the deep mid-wicket boundary, only for it to collect the fieldsman in the chest, before he held onto it. The Lord couldn’t have hit any better, other than to clear the fence.
The Difference reached his 40 & retired, while Frawley (48) got lucky with a dropped catch, and at 5/148 with 10 to go we were looking OK. Frawley reached his 40, and with 2 in the bank, lost 4 quick wickets: Toal (8); debutant Granger (0); Forde (0); & B3 Greg Butler (8) with The Difference & Frawley having 4 overs to try and push the score past 200. It wasn’t to be with Frawley caught behind in the 39th, leaving The Difference stranded on 49*.
194 was probably never going to be enough with a quickish outfield, and 4 fieldsmen (Garling, Frawley, Granger & Grimes) with varying degrees of invalidity.
CMac (1/30) & Toalie (0/29) bowled an excellent opening spell, however it wasn’t until the 15th over that CMac took our first wicket – 1/62 off 15.
B3 Butler (1/41) came on and cleaned up their No 3 with a perfect wrong-un in the 19th over, but their opener, Wells, & Nos 4 & 5 all retired at 40.
CCNSW 2/80 at ½ way mark and 2/145 with 10 to go looked to have it well in hand, with 3 in the bank needing 50 off 10.
The Difference (0/25) & B3 Butler had bowled well to keep the game in check, and then the Eel (4/40) took 4 wickets in 3 overs to put the jitters through them.
4/188 after 38 requiring 7 off 2, but it wasn’t to be. The 1st 3 balls of the 39th went for 4.1.4.
